ARTIST STATEMENT

As an artist, I am a wild explorer, directing my gaze and camera towards the surrounding world in search of new perspectives. In my video works and photographs, I explore the mysteries of humanity and nature, as well as the connections and meanings between all things. At the intersection of dreams, myths, sciences, and arts, phenomena intertwine and unfold for the viewer to experience.

TIITU / ARTIST

I primarily work with the camera, creating video art and photography. At the moment, I am deeply immersed in capturing the underwater world. I believe that different art forms can communicate with each other, bringing something new and unexpected to one another. My path to becoming an artist has also passed through the world of theater. As a child, I was certain I would become a writer. Today, I often think that if I weren’t an artist, I would probably be a marine biologist. Music is also an essential part of my life, and soundscapes play a significant role in my video works. I often appear in my works myself. This is largely because I am always available.

For me, creating art is about establishing a connection with nature and the surrounding universe, as well as seeking new perspectives. My inspiration arises from science and the arts, various phenomena, nature, dreams, and the myths of different cultures. My works often emerge through a playful yet profound process, where I dive into a specific theme, exploring, experimenting, and learning along the way. The universe is in constant motion, and so am I as an artist. I love wandering in nature and discovering new places. I believe my wild energy also reflects in my work.

I am deeply concerned about the state of our planet and often reflect, through my art, on how human actions affect the Earth. However, I don’t see my art as merely a form of commentary but also as a space where playfulness and profound reflections intersect, where small moments and big questions can exist side by side. I want my works to offer the viewer a space that leads to the unknown and surprising places, where thoughts and emotions collide, creating new insights and even new questions.

I have studied digital arts at Lapland University of Applied Sciences. In Helsinki I studied painting at the Free Art School and Expressive Art Therapies at Inartes Institute. I have also studied music therapy at Open University of Jyväskylä.
